Nancy asks…

do tattoo sleeves have to be themed in your opinion?

Im 18 I have a quarter sleeve on one arm and a random ones on the other…my right arm is themed (im not gonna say what cause of copy cats), but my left arm is random, it has like a red and black tiger thats like upside down (i might get covered), it has a shooting red/orange star, it has a black diamond, it has charmander…..idk, random sh#t that ill hate when im 50. My right arm looks very good ( i invested crap loads of money in it but im happy with it). Anyway Do you think it would be weird if i had one arm themed and not the other? And no my tattoos on my left arm dont have a meaning to them, the right does. And i work at family owned body shop, that i love. And yes i am aware that there is a chance of me regretting them when im ancient.

Anyway, opinions?

o and also, cause of my ethnicity black/mexican, my skin is like reddish brownish…my left is done in red and orange and black and my right are greens and blacks..i cant get very many vibrant colors on my arms, cause of skin darkening…..tis y stayed away from the whole japanese themed stuff…which i think is gorgeous btw

admin answers:

As far as i am concerned no they do not have to be themed.

Sandy asks…

Do any of you have tattoo ideas?

I want to create a tattoo for me and a friend. I want it to means something special and be symbolic. We’ve had a strange relationship. He is a family friend and we’ve known each other for quite sometime. There was love involved and loss. He never lived here but he would visit. and when he visited we would be so happy. At the same time, we were never ‘together.’ In between a visit… we had a misunderstanding that split our contact for 4 long years and now, we’re back in contact and love is back. We want to create a tattoo that represents the love, the loss, and the reunion. we also want it to be japanese style and good for a guy and a girl. Any ideas? i’m open to anything.
-Thank You so much for all of your help so far!

Joseph asks…

can i be fired from my job if i grow dreads?

i use to have really long hair in high school and i cut it because my parents and my ex girlfriend and her family convinced me that i would be taken more seriously in life if i have short hair with a clean and neat looking haircut. me being young and very influential i cut my hair all off and now that i see by me cutting my hair has made no difference on how people view me lol so i want my hair back. before i cut my hair off i was planning on getting dreads and then i started to see ALOT of people with dreads and i became less interested in the whole dread idea so now im starting to see less and less dread heads around i want to grow my hair back and get dreads (im different i cant follow the crowd i go out of my way to separate myself lol). so my questions: im black if that means anything lol

my hair is extremely short like 1mm damn near bald lol how long would it take for me to grow my hair back around to 10-12 inch range?

i work at best buy as a car installer and hopefully soon a lube tech at carmax. i kno at best buy there is a black guy that works in computers and he had a afro about a inch in length and they said he had to cut his hair. but since i work on cars and i rarely interact with customers could i be fired or written up for growing my hair?

as far as the way i look would it hinder my job?

i have alot of tattoos but the only visible one is my full sleeve tattoo of some Japanese art.
i have 0 gauge ears in both ears and diamond studs above the gauges in both ears.
i plan to get dermal anchors on the back of my neck (maybe) and start my half sleeve on my other arm.

i mean they are pretty lenient on us installers because we all have alot of tattoos (honestly what mechanic or any one that works on cars doesnt have tattoos?) not that i have tattoos and piercings because i work on cars they just seem to go hand-n-hand.
lol do you honestly think id stick my fu*king head by moving parts knowing that i have long hair?? really hahaha

admin answers:

Yes, they could fire you (assuming you live in a US state whose employment laws would allow them too) but if they are willing to let you have visible tattoos and gauged ears I’m betting they probably wouldn’t; especially since dreads are considered fairly tame when compared to tattoos & gauges. Unless there is a stated dress code of some kind that strictly prohibits it I say go for it if you want to. And if they really make a big deal about it I know that in the US at least, there have been a couple of people who have successfully sued employers that fired them for having dreads by claiming either religious (Rastafarian) or racial discrimination. I’m not saying you should, but if they threaten to fire you, mentioning it might help.

If you want to grow dreads then you def should. Also, I personally think that dreads are the one of the only styles of long hair that looks good on guys – provided they are clean and well kept, not the nasty, unclean, matted clumps that some people have.

Carol asks…

Is it bad etiquette to inquire about other people’s tattoos?

I have a pretty large tattoo of a phoenix on my back (one wing curves over my shoulder and the tail ends around the latitude of my navel). I’ve only had it about a year, and am very proud of it despite being brought up in a very conservative family. However, I’m not really aware of tattoo “culture” in the mainstream. I, personally, am very flattered when someone looks at my tattoo, asks who did it, what it means, etc. I paid big money to have a fairly well known local artist do it for me.

Well, my boyfriend has tats too and when I stopped a man once to admire the Japanese on scene on his arm (It looked like it was done by my artist, and I was correct), my boyfriend warned me to be careful doing that because some people consider it rude. Is this true? I usually ask people because I am looking for a companion piece to my Phoenix, and like to see other subjects done by other artists. But maybe it is weird to just talk to people in passing…

admin answers:

Generally, the reason for body art is to display it. It is not like you are asking about a butterfly on someone’s hind quarters. If they did not want it admired, they would not get one. I believe you are correct.
With one caveat, some people are on the insane side of stable. Many get tattoos. It is often not wise to ask anyone anything. But, that is a risk to take or not.

Charles asks…

I need help on a part of a story?

well, the stoey I’m writting takes place in Feudal Japan( Sengoku Jidai), which (for those who don’t know) is the time where Samurais and Ninjas became popular.
The main character is a Samurai who was orginally Uso Tsuki (Uso isn’t a real name; it means lie in japanese) I gave him the name to give it a pun, because if you say tsuki as is, it means moon. but if you add Uso in front, it means Liar (Uso-Tsuki=Liar)

but after doing some research realize most Samurai names are usually 2 characters (2 syllables sort of) so I need an idea for his name, though I really wonder if Uso is fine (Because he is notorious for lying)

His real name is Aoi ( I know it’s more feminine but technically Unisex.)

This is his little introduction
He was raised by his uncle who trained him as a samurai and raised him. An incident happen which led to the Uncle being forced to commit seppeku (but he ran away) which left Uso behind and instead, they punished Uso by tattooing his neck that dignified his family name dishonorable. it made his life hard because no one would sell him food and such, so he ran away, disguised as a warrior monk (who wore cowls over their heads which covered Uso’s neck) this is the beggining of his adventure so to speak.

And this is the trivial question:It turns out Uso’s uncle turned out to be his father. the reason for that being is that because Uso is a Bastard (unmarried parents)/ or has a dead mother. So what I mean to say is, should his mother be a Geisha (prostitute) or a Kunochi (female ninja) who died protecting his father? or something else? your oppinion.

TO RECAP ALL THE QUESTIONS:
1.what should the main character’s samurai/adult name should be if Uso isn’t an exceptable name.
2. should his mother be a prostitute or ninja, or whatever you think goes well

admin answers:

If his mother is going to be a prostitute, you need to get it right — should be a prostitute OR a geisha, not a geisha. While there are some geisha who also sold sex, on the whole the profession was actually barred from doing so. You would also want to look into whether or not a ninja (I’m assuming the uncle/father is a ninja too) would even have the resources to hire a geisha, or you would need a REALLY good reason for them to have met and had sex in the first place. If his mother is in fact an actual prostitute (and not a geisha who was pushed into a couple of times of a geisha who agreed to have sex with a ninja for some reason) you have a lot of different ranks of prostitute to choose from. My guess is that, more than likely, she would have been one of the lower ranks of prostitute, but there is always the possibility that she was a tayu or oiran (courtesan).
