Your Questions About Does Power 90 Work Without Supplements

Mark asks…

What is a good way to help poor/unfortunate people without giving them money?

Please list some ideas.

Also, if you can, list websites and books that give some ideas.
I should mention that I don’t believe giving people money is the answer. First of all, most people will just blow it away so they are no different than before.

If I gave them food, the same argument could be made. It keeps them right where they are because if you hand things to them, they have no incentive to work.

There must be something a person can do that will help them out w/o keeping them where they are.

Here’s what we do: food help – emergency food packages and community meals. Clothes Days – we have one of those coming up this Sat. A gas in gas tank (or a gas card) to help someone get to Dr or start a job work assistance where someone earns the help they need. Pay something directly to the landlord doctor, power co, etc. Info on help resources including the free cell phones ( http://www.assurancewireless.com and safelink.com and reachoutwireles.com and a number of others http://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/free-cell-phone-providers ) a free cell phone is a link to getting a job getting help in emergency and more. Also on health services shelters etc. In an area with public transportation bus or train tokens. In cold or hot weather Coleman survival blankets (reflect heat inward in winter and out in summer. Water. Basic hygiene products (if you are grubby you will not get a job) School supplies for low income children.

Basic facts: the average homeless person in the US is a 6 yr old child. 6 yr olds do not usually choose to be homeless and are powerless to change the situation. 1 in 6 Americans needs food help. Malnutrition is a leading cause of sickness and psychological problems for both children and adults, (see www.feedingamerica.org)

Basic economics a lot companies set up work weeks at less than 35 hours so they don’t have to pay benefits. Lots of jobs are in small places and do not pay minimum wage. Even 40 hours @ $7.55 = $302 at least 20% will come out for taxes = $242. In most places rent will run at least $100-140 a week and may or may not include utilities = $142-$102 getting to work however you look at it is going to cost around $50 a week = $90 – $52. Child care even with supplements is going to be $40-100 a week That leaves at most $12 a week for soap, toilet paper, shampoo all the stuff the school sends home a note and says Johnny needs $5 (or $20) for a trip or a project. It also leaves nothing for food, clothes, toys or aspirin. Even if somehow by the grace of God, food stamps, and maybe child support and paying one bill and skipping another each pay day they can manage a while like this what happens if mom has to miss a day’s work because her child is sick or she gets sick? What happens when the threadbare tire finally goes flat or the battery dies, or insurance is due? At least half the homeless people in our area are either working at least some, looking for work, or taking work training and from the information published by The Institute for Children and Poverty that is fairly typical.

Ultimately the solution is affordable housing and jobs but few of us can do that on a large scale. On an individual basis however it may be possible.

Lizzie asks…

My powered speakers are buzzing when turned on. Getting feedback from a power surge?

I have a 6 outlet power surge hooked up to my wall outlet. And I have to 15″ 550 watt powered speakers hooked up to the power surge along with my mixer. Now the 2 speakers are running on extension cords 25′ 12-10 gauge. And when I turn the speakers on I get feedback. If I unplug 1 speaker the other speakers feedback goes away. Any ideas to fix this issue without plugging my speaker into another outlet. I need to use the power surge for parties. Thanks

admin answers:

It sounds like you might be getting a ground loop or Phantom loop… Phantom loops occur when power cords run parallel to line cords so do not run power cords and line cords along parallel paths if they need to cross they should cross at 90 degree angles, also you could get a line conditioner to supplement or replace the surge suppressor, also you may need to get a higher quality surge suppressor, but a line conditioner will be more effective than a surge suppressor… Also do not place equipment directly on top of one another, you need to have space between speakers and equipment and equipment and equipment even if its only a few inches….

Can I make it through p90x without anything but the disks?

I was thinking about borrowing p90, p90m, p90x and p90x+ from a friend that bought it a while ago however they sold all the equipment they used when they did it and I have absolutely no money to spend on weights, bands or supplements. How can I make it through the series without spending any money?

admin answers:

The program (P90X) is pretty much worthless if you have nothing to use for resistance…you cannot get the benefits of the program’s strength training by using only your body for resistance…you can get a set of bands for not too much (cheaper than dumbbells) so I’d suggest you at least do that if you want to give it a go…

I’ve been through P90X three times, and I bought P90X plus, but have only checked out a couple of the workouts…

I’ve never seen Power 90 and never heard of P90M so cannot comment on those as I don’t know if they require resistance or not…if you have no equipment, you’d be better off trying to find a copy of “Insanity” (a different Beachbody program) as it requires no equipment and is all cardio and using your own body for resistance…

Betty asks…

Would you be upset if someone was giving you diet advise just to find out they lost weight in other ways?

2 years ago I started a weight loss program where you have a sponsor and you have to work a 12 step program. When I started going I noticed the people who have been on the program for years were still way over weight which would discourage me. I found a friend at this 12 step meeting who stated she works the program and that if a person works the 12 step program that you will no longer have to diet and that you will no longer obsess about the food. She stated the weight will just come off if you work the 12 step program. This sounded great and to good to be true. Come to find out my husband was friends with her husband and we started hanging out together. I asked my friend if she would be my sponsor because she use to weight 300+ lbs and has lost a dramatic amount of weight. After she became my sponsor she had me go on a diet. I didn’t and still do not understand why I would go on a diet if I am working my 12 steps when she stated before that there is no diet and that if I work my steps I will no longer obsess about food. The more I got to know her the more something just didn’t seem right. My friend/sponsor was still over wieght and one month she would gain enough weight to notice and then the next month lose it just to gain it back and then some the following month. She was always dieting and still obsessed about food. We have went out to dinner and had them over for dinner where she could not eat certain foods however she would make a huge salad with tons of meat ,cheese and almost a whole jar of regular ranch dressing. She stated she worked the 12 step progam however she is always on a diet program. I didn’t know my sponsor/friend use to be a lot skinnier and has gained a bunch of weight back. One day she showed me old photos of her when she first started the program. She was dramatically a lot thinner. This made me very disappointed because she has been on this 12 step program for years and she gained about 100 lbs back since that photo was taken. I became very discouraged and stopped the program but remained friends with her. We did not hang out for a few months and one day decided to hang out and she lost weight again only this time it was only in her stomach area. When I asked her how she lost it she stated from the 12 step progam and her diet which later found out this was a lie. Here is what made me a little upset. When going out with her one day we were all talking about surgeries and she stated she had two surgeries where they knocked her completely out with anesthetics. When asked what surgeries she had she got nervous and almost said stom but instead said C section and a tummy tuck. I know for a fact that she did not get anesthetics when she had her C-section and surely she wasn’t completely knocked out. I feel I was lied to this whole time. Not that it was any of my business however I think she should have been upfront and stated she lost the weight in other ways instead of the program. This lady is very sweet and never has anything negative to say about someone. What should I do? Talk to her or just let it go? I feel if I just let it go I will hold resentment towards her but if I talk to her she might think I am prying and feel as though I am knocking down the program.

When someone deceives me, I feel less in touch with the person. Intimacy requires openess and honesty. I expect to be completely open and honest when I have an intimate friend. When my friend is less than open and honest, I draw back from them. Intimacy is far more valuable to me than prestige, money, or power.

Many people try to simplify the process of weight loss. For me it involves multiple dimensions, including:

– Proper eating – A mostly whole plant based diet.
– Sleep – At least 8-9 hours of deep sleep every day. Relaxation and rest during the day.
– Aerobic Exercise – 30 minutes most days.
– Resistance training – Every third day to build muscle instead of fat tissue.

The most immediate result for me occured when I started the whole plant based way of eating. I lost 90 pounds without feeling hungry or deprived. Consult with the web sites and books of Dean Ornish, Neal Barnard, Joel Fuhrman, T. Colin Campbell, Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., and many others. The food and supplement industry puts out a lot of misinformation (often used by mass media and Dr. Oz), so it’s important to find reputable and honest researchers in the field.

I do believe the 12-step programs are important, however, they work best when used in conjunction with a healthy eating program. I lost 90 pounds by simply changing my diet. Lifting weights can help convert calories stored in fat tissue to muscle. Muscle is 7 times more efficient (on a pound for pound basis) than fat tissue in storing calories. Would you rather have one pound of muscle, or seven pounds of fat?

Robert asks…

What is your experience taking niacin (flush kind)?

I heard it opens your cappilaries and helps blood flow…but it does make your face flush about 90 minutes after taking it….it also is a detoxifier. I just wonder how many here have ever tried it?

admin answers:

I’ve been taking high doses of Niacin for many years.

A few excerpts from the article linked to in “Source(s)” below:

Niacin plays a crucial role in energy production, gene expression, and hormone synthesis. Humans cannot exist without it.

When taken at doses greater than the RDA (16mg for males – 14mg for females), niacin confers an array of health benefits:

Increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) by 20-35%. No other available over-the-counter treatments, and very few drugs, are as effective.
Decreases small low-density lipoprotein (small LDL) particles. Small LDL is an important yet underappreciated cause of heart disease. Niacin is the most effective agent known for correcting this abnormal pattern.
Decreases triglycerides by 30%. Niacin is especially effective when taken with fish oil (at doses of 4000 mg a day, providing 1200 mg of EPA/DHA).
Decreases very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles.
Decreases lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a). No other treatment approaches the power of niacin to reduce the genetically determined pattern of high Lp(a), which is among the most serious risk factors for heart disease.
Decreases low-density lipoprotein (LDL), usually by 20-40 mg/dL, or 5-25%.

Besides improving cardiovascular health it dramatically reduces the risk of heart attack. Statin drugs typically reduce heart attack chances by 25-35%, Niacin reduces it by up to 90% as shown in a double-blind study noted in the article linked to in “Sources”.

The very-slow-release niacin preparations that yielded sustained high blood levels of niacin caused liver toxicity in 10-20% of people who used these preparations in the 1980s. Unfortunately, this learning experience left some physicians fearful of recommending niacin to their patients. For this reason, very-slow-release niacin should be avoided.

There are two safe forms:
1) Immediate-release/crystalline niacin is available as a nutritional supplement and is inexpensive and effective. To reduce the flush; starting at small doses, such as 250 mg, can be helpful. The dose can be increased gradually (by 250 mg every four weeks) to achieve the desired amount. There are some more ways noted in the article. Doses greater than 500 mg per day should be used only under medical supervision.
2) Extended-release niacin – not the same as slow-release. Two products are Slo-Niacin (OTC) and Niaspan (prescription).

You will only feel/see the flush as your system gets used to a reasonably increased dosage. It usually took me just a couple of days to get over it as I was increasing my dosage up to what I take now (and have for quite a few years).

I take over a gram (1035mg), divided equally into three 345mg doses, a day and do not flush. I did take a 4th dose of 345mg, for a total of 1380mg just the other day because I was late with my third dose the day before (so the first of those four was a late 3rd actually) – anyway, I did get a slight flush then.

The flush is not harmful in any way, and has never bothered me in the least, it just shows it’s working. The types (usually Niacinamide) sold as “no-flush” are not effective . . . A waste of money.
