What popular tattoo animal and/or symbol represents family?
I am getting a tattoo within the next few months and am looking for ideas. I have always held the idea of loyalty to family as most important to me. If someone could let me know what animals or symbols represent anything like this I would be grateful 🙂 Also the tattoo is going to be on one side of my chest below my collarbone and is going to be black and shading, no colour. Thanks 🙂

What is the celtic symbol for family?
My two brothers and I wanted to get family tattoos, and we wanted to get a family symbol. Any ideas?

The Celtics drew Celtic knots, but they were only decorative, they didn’t use them as an alphabet. See some Celtic knots here: http://images.google.com/images?q=celtic+knot
Also, there isn’t one language called “Celtic,” in fact even back in the times of the Romans (around 300BC) the Celts were a bunch of separate groups of people (living in Ireland, Scotland, and England), who spoke their own separate languages. Today, “Celtic” refers to the language family that includes Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Welsh, Breton and Cornish (as well as the dead languages Lepontic, Noric, Galatian, Celtiberian, Ivernic and Pictish).
“Family” in Irish Gaelic is “teaghlach,” and in Welsh it’s “teulu.” I don’t have dictionaries for the other languages, so you’ll have to wait for someone else to help you with those.
If you really want to add some “Celtic-ness” to your tattoo, you can write your words in the Gaelic type (used in Irish Gaelic and Cornish): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaelic_script
