Your Questions About WordPress Blogs Templates

Ruth asks…

How to learn to create wordpress templates?

I currently have no clues about html/css or any type of web oriented language but I can design a site with Fireworks and Photoshop. I’m thinking of learning how to make wordpress templates for blogs.
Where do I start with the learning process? It seems like there’s a lot of information to digest, so I don’t know what’s the best way of learning. What should I learn and from where?

admin answers:

I bought an ebook “Rockstar WordPress Designer”, it walks you through the design of a WP theme.
Step by step introduction, for me that was all I needed.

If you want to learn how to go from a Mock up to the HTML/CSS I have included a link on how to do that too.

What is some good website framework? Like WordPress, but for actual websites?

I have to get about 15 small websites up and running, and it would be nice to have some framework I can just apply a template to.

I was thinking of just turning WordPress blogs into websites by creating a bunch of pages, but I would rather have something more catered towards regular websites. I looked at Drupal, but I’m not sure if it’s what I’m looking for. I don’t know enough about it.

admin answers:

It’s rather hard to answer this question with the amount of information you’ve given, but I *think* the class of frameworks you’re looking for is CMS — Content Management System. Yes, Drupal does actually qualify as a CMS, but there are other options, too, like Joomla. If you need only a fair amount of flexibility (that is, don’t need/want to code everything yourself), these may be what you want. Take a look at the demos, install it on a test machine, see if it’s what you need.

If you want an actual website framework, there are plenty to choose from — PHP has CakePHP and CodeIgniter, Ruby has Ruby on Rails and Merb, Python has Django, etc, but these are much more DIY than Drupal or Joomla, which provide ready-made components.

Is it possible to post to to WordPress blogs at the same time? If so, how do I?

I have two self hosted WordPress blogs. I have resorted to this as I want to have a mobile version of my site, but making my template mobile compatible is proving very difficult. So my blogs are hosted on mydomain.com and mobile.mydomain.com. I want the content to be syncronised, but for my template to remain as per each site. Is there a way of doing this without copy and paste? I have looked on Google, posted on the WordPress forums and looked through the WordPress plugin gallery … is it possible to syncronise my content between two blogs on the same domain but separate subdomains?

admin answers:

Can you simply link your mobile site to the blog at the other site? Or what about putting the blog content into a separate file and then both sites link to that?

Is Firepow Any Good for Creating WordPress Blogs?

Hi there,

Does Firepow make WordPress blogs easy to set up, or do you already need a lot of WordPress experience to use it?

I hate dealing with html and coding and stuff. I really want to start setting up WordPress blogs because everybody says they can be so profitable. But I have a nervous breakdown every time I try to figure out what template to use, how the heck to upload plugins, and all that stuff. I was wondering if anybody here has found that the new firepow tool is any good? The sales page says you can easily put together WordPress blogs from within one control panel but I’m wondering how much I need to know first (about code and plugins and all that jazz) to be able to use the software. I don’t want to invest in something only to find out that I have to already be a rocket scientist before I can use the program! LOL I’m looking for something that is for us stupid types who aren’t good with code, etc. Thanks for any help from more experienced users.

admin answers:

As with anything you’ll have a learning curve with this software – but I think given where you’re coming from you would like this blogging software. Firepow is pretty intuitive to use and you can create all your WordPress blogs within one control panel. Plus you can choose from lots of cool themes and plugins so everything is in one place. I used to lose days hunting around for decent templates and plugins that were compatible with my blog! So Firepow will save you time with all that. Also within the membership you can get access to some amazing time saving tools to help you trade backlinks with other members, submit your content to social bookmarking services, and more with the press of a button. So many of the frustrating aspects of setting up WordPress are removed with this software.

I have a review about this at my Internet marketing blog – hope it’s okay to post it:
