Your Questions About Polynesian Cultural Center

Daniel asks…

How long does Dole Plantation and Polynesian Cultural Center take.?

We plan to go to Dole Plantation, Waima Beach, and Polynesian Cultural center in 1 day. Do you think it is possible? How long does each take? How long does Diamond Head take? First to Answer is selected as Best Answer

admin answers:

Well, I’m not sure if I’m going to be first, but I’ll throw in my 2 cents. 🙂

First, I think it is possible to one day. It will be a long one, but you’ll have plenty to keep your interest up. Start in the morning at the Dole Plantation, then go to Wiamea Beach, then go to the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Your time at Dole Plantation will vary depending on which tours you want to take. Here’s what they say about the length of time to plan:
The tour will vary in length depending on the activities you select. The Plantation Garden Tour takes approximately one hour to complete. The Pineapple Garden Maze, on average, takes 40 minutes to finish. The
Pineapple Express Train ride lasts 20 minutes. A minimum of one hour is suggested for the Pineapple Express Train ride and pineapple cutting demonstration combination. Http://www.doleplantation.com/ I’d also throw in another 15 minutes for walking around the gift shop there. It’s a pretty nice one.

It will take you about 20 minutes to get up to Waimea Beach from the Dole place. You can spend as little or as much time at Wiamea Beach as your want. To see it and absorb how pretty it is….plan on at least 15 minutes.

It will probably take about 30 minutes to get to the Polynesian Center from there. Aim to get there for about noon if you can…Visit all the island villages…go to the evening luau and then to the evening Horizons show. Depending upon what Horizons performance you go to, you could be at the PCC until 9pm. Or just a little after at the latest.

Here’s a link to one of my PCC reviews with some tips…including money saving tips:

I’m not sure where you’ll be staying, so I can’t really say how long it will take you to get back there.

As for hiking Diamond Head, plan on about 1 – 1.5 hours. Http://www.backyardoahu.com is a good source for hiking info.

Hope this helps…enjoy!

Paul asks…

Is the luau better at Germaine’s Luau or Polynesian Cultural Center?

I want to know which luau is better. We will only get the general admission ticket for the Polynesian Cultural Center, which is included in the Go Oahu card. But I don’t know if the luau at Germaine’s Luau is better. We will only be staying in Waikiki for 3 days and we want to do as many activities as we can without repeating one.

admin answers:

The Germaine’s Luau is great! My husband and I went in September 2005 when we were on our honeymoon. They company picks you right up from your hotel and takes you there on greyhound type buses. I think when we went there were like 4-5 buses that were there maybe around 200 people were there when we were. The luau is literally on the beach with the ocean like 20 feet away (maybe a little more but you are really close). The tickets include 2 free alcoholic drinks if you want and free soft drinks. They kind of have a ceremony taking the hog out of the ground (which is the traditionally way to roast the pig) and then they have two buffet lines that include traditionally hawaiian food and also the typically “american” food. After you are served they do the dancing show. They male and female dancers do traditional dances found in Tahiti, Hawaii, and many other countries. It is really fun and they do include the crowd in some activities to. I would really recommend doing this luau. We had a blast!! We are planning another trip to Hawaii in 2008 and would love to go back. Have fun in Hawaii!

David asks…

What is your opinion of the Polynesian cultural center?

I am considering spending a day there and then doing the luau & evening show. I plan on spending the extra money to get the VIP seating. Any input is greatly appreciated.
By the way I will also be attending the Old Lahaina Luau in Maui later that week. Just trying to do some fun stuff on Oahu for the couple of days that I am there.

admin answers:

Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) is a great place to learn about other cultures of the Pacific. I would strongly suggest you take along some good walking shoes, a hat, and a bottle of water. The luau/dinner show can’t be beat and will make more sense if you take the time to visit the different villages during the day. Try out everything you can…..you’ll learn much more and gain a better understanding than just standing back and watching.

Good luck and happy travels!

Michael asks…

What is the best day of the week to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center?

Is there a certain day of the week that might be less crowded?

admin answers:

Does not matter. Closed on Sunday. This is a “cash cow” for Mormon church. The only way to see it all in one day is to pay extra for guide.
