Your Questions About Tattoo Symbols And Meanings For Love

Lizzie asks…

I want to get a few tattoos, any suggestions?

i dont want the ridiculous body tats, I want a few simple ones. I drew identical circles on my inner wrists with an x in it and the x going out of the circle on all 4 of its points. I love this symbol and I know it has many meanings but I want to have my own meaning for it. I learned its infused with pagan symbols. I love any kind of design inside of a circle, so can anyone redirect me to a site with all the pagan symbols + their meanings or to a site about circle symbols? I also love the Anarchy symbol but i dont know if I should get 2 different symbols or just do identicals. Im only 16 so I cant get them right now unless I can do them secretly. If anyone has any suggestions please give them. But please no criticizing or judgement.

Here’s a unique Anarchy symbol you could get a tattoo of:

Mary asks…

Looking for opinions on how to orient my soon to be inner forearm tattoo.?

Hi all….I’m looking for some opinions…so all advise is greatly appreciated…Thanks!

I will be getting a new tattoo soon. It will be on my inner forearm…from below the elbow to right above the wrist. The tat will be of 7 runic symbols. They will each be around an 1 1/2 inch sized, violet filled color, and bold black outline.

The question I have is what is the best orientation for the runes? Should they be vertical going from the elbow area down to the wrist? Or should they be like writing from the elbow area to the wrist? (where the bottom of each rune would be toward my body if my arm is down and forearm turn forward or toward the ground if my arm is raised up)

This is really my only uncertainty to this tattoo before I get it. Wondering what others out there think is the best.

Also, if it helps…it is possible in the future this tat may turn into a half sleeve. I have thoughts to put a wrapping rose that goes around the arm and the runes are embedded…however, I have not agreed with myself how I want to do that yet and wont get a tat until I’m sure its how I want it to be. The rune part I’m asking about is completely how I want as far a design and meanings and such..just the orientation issue is up in the air.

On a side note…does anyone have a inner arm tat and can give me an idea of pain I may expect? I am very thin and don’t really have any excess “padding”…been that way all my life, so its not likely I will really gain or lose weight in the future…at least not more than a 10 pound range. I do have 3 tats now. The first is a small one on my front part of shoulder…didn’t hurt at all. Second is a wrap around my ankle..wasn’t too bad, some pain over the bone area and tendon area. The third is the top of my hand (covers most of the top)…this one was painful, especially over bone areas. It is also very detailed, which I’m sure played a part to the pain. I do love it tho, so it was worth it. Anyway, just wondering what I may expect for the inner arm.

Thanks everyone!!
sorry to hear your response below Michael…I’m assuming you may have had a poor experience in WI. Sadly though, I can not agree with a few things you said. First of all, I’m not getting my first tattoo…I have 3 already. My tattoos are very special to me…so I customize myself because they are MINE. Granted your right the tattoo artist can do this, but that doesn’t make it MINE. I do use the artist to help tweek the tats since I’m not a trained artist, so they do help with details if I need it. Second, I’m sorry you are very incorrect about being able to get custom tattoos in Green Bay or even WI. There are several artists who encourage custom tattooing around here. Plus, I am actually friends with the Harnowski’s and they most definately do custom work. I don’t have questions about where to go to get the tat or the design…I already know that as I’ve put over a year of thought and design into this. My only main question is what opinions others have as to the best orientation of th

admin answers:

You can orient them many different ways. The most common would be to orient them so that while your arm is hanging at rest they are right side up. Though if you want it could also be done so that they are right side up if you hold your arm out at 90 degrees to your side. Unless they spell out something I dont see the need to line them up like a sentence either horizontally or vertically. If the runes your talking about are runes like I know where they are used mostly for divination and fortune telling I would be tempted to set them semi random about your arm. Sort of to symbolize the random nature of the runes and of life. Set like that it would be easy later to interweave other designs and and out or between them.

Lots of things could be done with this idea. Sit down with your artist and talk it out. One thing to think hard on though is the heavy black outline filled with violet. That combo is pretty low contrast and they might not stand out as much as you like. Let your artist give you suggestions based on your skin tone or maybe use some amount of highlights to get them to stand out.

As far as pain goes inner arm hurts but its not excruciating. The top of the hand be much worse than this it will probably be less than the ankle even.

This is a note to the clown below me. There are great tattooists in green bay. If you dont believe me look up Rick Harnowski hes been tattooing up there a long time. Just cause someone was on TV doesnt make them the best by any stretch of the imagination.

Richard asks…

Is this tattoo a silly idea? i’m going to get it anyway haha!?

OK!

a tiny little love heart on my bum cheek hehe! it wont be any bigger than a cm!

i’m usually more into tattoos with meaning… i have seven others (small ones) stratigically placed so i dont look all inky haha and so they are easily concealed for work and such (five of them are wee little stars in five places, they all have meanings that i wont get into here!)

this heart however (the first one i’ll get in colour) its kinda a moral support thing, as a friend is getting her first tattoo on the day, to me a guess it’s a huge symbol of what i’ll do for my friends 🙂

i’d also like a secret tattoo, noone will know except the girls i’m going to the tattoo parlor with, and ofcourse u guys 😀

so honest oppinions!

thanks guys xo
I figure once i’m 40/50 noone will see my bum, and i’m the sort of person who would find it kinda amusing ^_^

admin answers:

What’s the problem with that?! Lol I have a really small heart behine my right ear, everyone said what’s the point and I said because it is my body. If you really think about it, it does have meaning because the only person seein ur bum is someone u love (or like a fair bit lol) so the heart could kind of mean that. Sounds like a cool idea.

George asks…

What does the ace of spades mean in your opinion ?

I was thinking of getting it as a tattoo.
Ive been told it can be a symbol of lost love, luck and also death.
Its also the symbol/name for a song I adore.

I however researched a little further into its meanings and found out it has some ties to Vietnam.
The card and symbol was used to represent death a lot .

I don’t really want it to be as negative as that.

So what would you guys think if you saw a spade tattooed on someone ?
thanks for the opinions so far, but im not actually a motorhead fan lmao
Mariyln mansons song Spade is the one i meant .
but..yeah.. i might find a cute intricate design =]

admin answers:

At the end of the day tattoo’s are symbolic to you, make sure they mean something that is symbolic because it will be on your body forever.
I have six.
You could always get the motorhead symbol instead or even ask your tattooist to incorporate motorhead and the ace of spades symbol together?
Tattoo’s don’t just have to be obvious to everyone else in terms of there meaning, it adds a little mystery when someone has to ask you what it represents.

Sharon asks…

Tattoos or Brands?

I’ve been planning for a while to get a scythe (the sickle that the Grim Reaper holds) tattooed on my right ankle and when I find the right man to marry, together we get a set, a band of celtic knotting to match on our left upper arms.

I was told a long time ago to NEVER get a guy’s name tatted, because he has “branded” you for life with the pain he will cause you. Both of these symbols do ring true for a guy that I love, but both have double meanings to me (he is my God of Death but I have always seen myself as the Preistess of Death; never ending love, never ending life)

Do you think it would be branding myself? Or, because there are double reason for both, I should just go ahead and get them?
By the way, this is just a questioning of opinion. I recognize and understand that the ultimate decision is mine and mine alone. If I get these tattooes, it’s because I want them, if I don’t then I won’t get them done.
The God of Death thing- At a time in my life where I wanted nothing more than to die, I met him. And he took me into a time that seemed like nothing short of heaven itself. So I’ve always said that he was my God of Death, swooping low with his scythe to come and carry me across the river Styxe to go to Nirvana.
I hate to do this but I have to ask the latest poster, did you even really read the question? No names! Both are double meaning symbols. Please read more thoroughly before answering.

I think it sounds like you really want the scythe and i think you should get it for yourself. Then when you find that man who you will marry you decide together how you want to show your commitment. It is an important decision and while other peoples opinions will not change your mind they will allow you to look at all options and decide whats best for you. Good luck to you!!
