Cures For Dry Flaky Skin

While dry flaky skin may not be physically irritiating, it can certainly be emotionally harmful. To understand this, take the example of a case where the dryness and flakiness happens to occur on the face, as it commonly does. Now just imagine the results of walking around this way. Typically, no one will question you about your skin condition. What people will do, in trying to ‘appear polite’, is to come to their own conclusions about the situation – which could be anything from lack of cleanliness to having a serious skin disease to being an effect of too much stress and anything in between. Yet whatever a person assumes becomes their reality, and they may even start spreading it around.

So why does this affect some people and not others? Dry flaky skin is mainly caused by a problem with natural oil (sebum) in the skin and the cure for it must lie in addressing restoring it again. This lack of sebum could actually be as a consequence of the damage to the glands in the skin which are responsible for its development – which brings us to the first treatment for dry flaky skin – which is the adoption of aloe vera skin products.

The adoption of aloe vera skin products – and most notably the cream – not only directly infuses some oil to the skin but goes as far as curing the underlying tissue responsible for creation of the skin’s natural oil, thus taking care of the problem from its source.

Another possible cause of dry flaky skin could be lack of the nutrients from which the skin makes sebum – and this brings us to yet another possible therapy for dry flaky skin, which is proper food choices. Proper food choices in this regard does not mean filling up on oily food but rather, taking foods which contain the essentials that the skin uses to make sebum, most notably Sulphur – a nutrient which is plentiful in typical foods like onions and garlic. These are simple to use foods which you can embrace in place of spices in your recipes.

Use of harsh soaps and extremely hot bathing water is yet another possible reason you could be having dry flaky skin. The solution to this is straightforward – choosing cooler bathing water, less harsh soaps, and perhaps using Aloe Vera skin products to help take care of the damage that the strong soaps had already inflicted on you.

As a short term remedy, you can also choose a dry skin lotion. Using lotion is a stop gap treatment for dry skin relief but it won’t get the tissues responsible for the production of sebum to generate the oil, but it will surely help with the embarrassment and discomfort.
