Mark asks…
Symbolism for love between siblings?
My brother and I want to get matching tattoos and I’ll be damned if I get some typical, every day Chinese/Japanese writing like everyone else does. Are there any symbols that mean love between siblings? Doesn’t necessarily have to be between sister and brother, just sibling love in general. Maybe animals or flowers that represent familial love? Something of that nature. Something that represents familial love.
Also, I’m sorry I have no idea how to categorize this question. Like seriously, what do I even put this under properly where more people would be likely to answer? Jeez.

There are a few symbols that might interest you. Here is what I’ve found:
A horoscope known for being family oriented is Virgo, but Cancer is also known to have a general need of family as well.
Virgo is represented by it’s respective horoscope symbol (the one that looks like a crazy “m”) as well as virgins.

Cancer is represented by it’s respective symbol (69) and crabs.

There are several symbols for twins, including the Gemini sign (Roman numeral 2) and the yin yang symbol (black and white circle)

I know you said you didn’t want to get any Oriental writing, but here’s some images just in case.

A simple circle is a sign of unity along with a peace sign, 8 space symbol (I can’t really explain it. You’re just going to have to follow the link), a wheel and Ouroboros (Dragon eating his own tail). These don’t, however, necessarily mean unity in family, so you may want to do a bit more research if you are looking into them.

The only symbol for family I could find was this:

If none of these seem to fit what you were looking for, the best thing may be to design your own personal symbol. Taking things you already know (such as a circle representing unity), you can combine or create different pieces of one symbol that will have a lot more meaning to you both than any of these others might.
If this seems interesting to you, you can also check here for colours to possibly include:

I hope that helped!

Ruth asks…
What does Leviticus 19:28 (verse in description) mean in modern times?
“‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.” I’m having a really hard time understanding this. I recently asked a question about getting a tattoo of a cross and a person brought this verse up. I now have second thoughts about getting a tattoo. I love God and don’t want to go against his law. But after Vatican II they did bring up not taking the bible exactly word for word. Yes, I know this doesn’t mean disregard the bible. But people pierce their ears including me and I want to know if that’s a sin as well. I’m really conflicted between the bible and modern times. I have kept in mind in the side that tattoos are okay it can depend on the intentions. Can someone just please help explain this to me. Sincerely confused Christian.

You have to remember that tattoos in ancient times were marks of ownership. Either slave markings to identify who owned you, or pagan deities who claimed ownership of you (by virtue of the mark of ownership). This was the entire purpose behind the laws against tattoos and other markings. Since according to the Hebrews Yahweh owns us, none other. Therefore to show ourselves as belonging to someone else was a big no-no.
In modern times, tattoos don’t carry the same significance. Of course, if it’s a gang-symbol, like a motorcycle club logo, it may very well carry the same concept of “ownership”, and therefore invokes the wrath of Leviticus. But if it’s not about this, I don’t think there’s any contextual reason to say we can’t get a tattoo. I have a tattoo on my arm (the Chinese symbol for Faithfulness), to show both my faithfulness to God, my faithfulness to my friends and family, and (more importantly) God’s faithfulness to me.
I’ve also been considering putting the Bible reference “Ephesians 2:8-9” (or maybe 8-10, to be more contextual) on the lower part of my back, but haven’t got around to that, it’s been on my “things to do” list for five years now, lol.
Hope this answer helps =)

Me and my twin have the Kanji symbol for twin on your ankles. Maybe you could do the chinese symbol for family… Or cousins… Or Kanji symbol for either? I’m not sure if “Kanji” is spelt correctly but I’m sure the artist will know what it is! Good luck :p hope that helped!

me and my sister arent really really close but i still love her and we are friends. any ideas for a tattoo?
we are the only kids in my family.
also both of our names start with k so maybe a play on that????

Did you guys have anything you both really enjoyed together growing up? For example, did you both love a certain movie, play a sport, or I don’t no, just something you both did together as kids.
Or you could each get the chinese symbol for sister in each others birthstone color or favorite color.
Something that looks like it connects, (kind of like those friendship necklaces)
Maybe you could get something on your right foot, and her on her left foot that kind of goes together.
Good Luck!
