Steven asks…
Help me with tattoo cover up ideas?
I need a cover up on my left arm. It is of a confederate flag and an American flag with the words “American by Birth Southern by the Grace of God”. I am thinking about covering up with some sort of tribal, Polynesian, Celtic, or a combination that is different. I am looking for people to submit drawings that they make for possible ideas on cover up.here is the link

I like tattoos and some piercings, but some of this stuff is taking it a little too far….?
I personally do not understand this the most:

I wouldn’t look at that if you are sensitive to disturbing images. The first few pages aren’t that bad, but it gets worse as it goes on.
then, with body mods, like i said, I like tattoos and piercings…but:

I just think its taking it a little overboard. So here’s my main questiion, if anyone partakes in the scarring/skin cutting body modification (not just teenagers who sit in their room and cut themselves, but people who do it for other reasons) im just wondering how much that hurts???

As a body piercer, I’ve seen many typed of body modifications. Some may seem strange and unusual, but to an outsider its just not understood.
***I don’t agree with blood play, as it can be harmful in so many ways.***
Scarification has been practised for thousands of years. Unfortunately, many of the seen pictures do not show it being done in a hygienic shop, with proper methods.
It is a very dangerous method of body art, and although I would not recommend it, it is still practises around the world. It can produce some unique results depending on how your skin heals.
As for branding,(burning the skin). This too can produce some interesting results. This also has been around for many years, and has been brought back into modern body modification.
I’ve seen some wonderful work done.
People tend to mimic the trends of ancient tribal customs. Earlobe stretching, Polynesian tribal tattooing, septum stretching, branding,scarification….. These things seem strange to us because they are odd and unusual but in another culture they would be rites of passage, or customs.
Except blood play..I don’t agree with blood play at all.

can a tattoo reach your bones and leave a image?
admin answers:
I have heard that US forces get their ribs tattooed to help identify bodies, and I’m sure I’ve seen a skull of a maori (possibly Polynesian) in a museum with tattoo ink on it.
Jenny asks…
where did the word tattoo originate from?

Etymology
From Polynesian languages tatau (Samoan and Tahitian) “to tap”.
