Yesterday we discussed that you need a nutritional template if you’re truly committed to having the healthiest and most attractive body possible.

A nutritional template just means, a meal plan.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking they need a SPECIAL PLAN designed to meet their individual needs and that is a MISTAKE, at first.

Eventually you can incorporate some more advanced nutrition techniques but if you’re not flaunting a ripped six-pack, right now, or exuberating all-day energy, you are probably swimming in water too deep.

===================
You’ve Been Lied To
===================

We’ve both been conditioned to believe that you need a nutrition plan different than everyone else. You’re right, partly!

You’ve been told to worry about calories, macronutrient rations and other advanced details in the beginning, which in my opinion is wasted energy.

Focusing on these details is like working on your finishing sprint in the marathon when you’re not even in shape to run 1 mile yet.

The best meal plan is based on BALANCE and VARIETY which is exactly catered to your physiological make up. You can’t get more personalized than that!

==========
The TRUTH:
==========

At the start, EVERYONE’S nutritional quest should begin at the SAME starting line.

Plainly put: You Need A SIMPLE Nutritional Plan You
Can Implement IMMEDIATELY, COMPLETE With The CORRECT,
Foundational Nutritional Principles.

Don’t get me wrong, once you get to being a few percent away from “camera-ready” and “contest-ready” shape, you’re going to have to incorporate some more advanced tricks but for now, it’s best you accept the 3-phase meal plans as the best place to start.

Cross training is a technique used by professional athletes to improve their long term performance and enjoyment of their chosen sport. But you don’t need to be an athlete to use cross training techniques or benefit from cross training. Those of us hoping to lose weight can benefit greatly from cross training too.

In this article we’ll tell you what cross training is, the top 10 benefits of cross training and how you can use it to assist you to lose weight.

Exactly what is Cross Training?

Basically, cross training means adding different activities into our regular workout routine.

Quite often people who want to lose weight rely solely on one exercise like walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, rollerblading, yoga, Pilates, aerobics classes or weight training to meet all of their fitness and weight loss needs.

This is a mistake.

The Top 10 benefits of Cross Training

Benefit 1: Injury Prevention

Doing a single exercise or type of training can lead to ‘overuse injuries’.

Overuse injuries occur across a range of different activities including running, weight training, swimming and cycling, just to name a few.

An example of an overuse injury is a walker that pulls their calf muscle or a swimmer that develops a shoulder injury as a direct result of running or swimming too much.

Widespread causes of overuse injuries include not enough recovery time between exercise sessions, biomechanical irregularities and muscular imbalances, and cross training can help to address these factors.

Benefit 2: Rehabilitation

When we develop an overuse injury, cross training helps in two ways:

1. By helping us to preserve our fitness and continue to lose weight despite being forced to stop doing our preferred or primary exercise, and

2. By helping us to correct the source of the injury.

Benefit 3: Improved Overall Fitness

Because different activities place stress on different parts of our body, including a variety of exercises in our routine usually provides the best possible overall fitness.

Because overall fitness includes cardiovascular (heart and lung) fitness, muscle strength and flexibility it’s not hard to see how doing one type of exercise may produce inferior results while a variety of exercises done within the same routine can produce the best results.

Benefit 4: Active Recovery

Those of us exercising for weight loss and fitness face a contradiction of sorts in that we need to exercise on most days to maximise fat loss and fitness but at the same time we need to ensure that our body gets plenty of rest.

The solution to this dilemma is called ‘active recovery’.

Active recovery involves participating in an activity that puts a minimum amount of stress on the parts of the body that need the most recovery while putting a moderate amount of stress on other body parts not already fatigued.

For example, a jogger whose upper body isn’t fatigued from their regular running program can swim in between runs. The swimming in this case exercises the runner’s upper body muscles and still helps to maintain their aerobic capacity while giving their leg muscles a well deserved rest.

Benefit 5: Motivation

No matter how motivated you are to lose weight and get fit, if you do a single exercise often enough the chances are it will eventually become boring.

Most people are stimulated by variety and turned off by monotony and providing variety and avoiding monotony is one of cross training’s greatest benefits.

When it comes to weight loss, anything we can do to enhance our motivation for exercise is worth doing.

Benefit 6: Periodisation

As well as helping us from week to week, cross training facilitates ‘periodisation training’ which involves doing different exercises at various times of the year.

For example, jogging in spring and autumn may be good but may not be as appealing in summer and winter when swimming and indoor activities may be more inviting.

Benefit 7: Enjoying Other Sports

Aerobic fitness, muscular strength and flexibility are highly transferable capacities between sports and activities so the fitter we are usually the more likely we will be able to perform well and therefore enjoy the widest possible range of activities.

Benefit 8: Improved Workout Flexibility

Sometimes we need to be very flexible about the type of exercise we do to lose weight and get fit.

For example, if we have planned to do a run today and the weather turns ugly it is better to pull out an exercise video or DVD and do an aerobics workout or yoga session than it is to do nothing at all.

Being flexible in this way assists to ensure that no matter what obstacles daily life presents, we will be able to work around them and get our exercise in anyway.

Benefit 9: Improved Skill, Agility and Balance

As well as ensuring a great balance between aerobic fitness, muscle strength and flexibility, cross training also ensures a good balance between things like skill, agility, balance, eye-hand coordination, etc, all of which can be useful in other areas of our daily life.

Benefit 10: Increased Sociability

As well as assisting motivation, overall fitness and weight loss results, cross training has the power to provide social benefits as well.

Swimming laps at a pool for example is a very individual activity and doesn’t provide the opportunity to really catch up with people and enjoy their company.

Cycling or walking on the other hand does and these are pursuits that can be regularly done with family and friends.

How to get the most out of cross training

To get the most out of cross training be sure to:

  • Vary cardiovascular exercises (walking, jogging, cycling, etc) with weight training (barbells and dumbbells, machines, exercise bands, etc) and flexibility/stretching exercises (such as yoga and Pilates).
  • Choose activities or sports you find pleasurable or have always wanted to try.
  • Ensure that your routine includes some days of purecomplete rest to ensure total recovery and provide true life balance.
  • Whatever activities you choose, always start slowly and build up your exercise time and intensity gradually.
  • Learn about any new activity or sport before you try it; in other words, do some research.
  • Consider getting some instruction from the likes of Personal Trainers, Gym Instructors, Swimming Instructors, Pilates Instructors and the like before you try doing things on your own.
  • Make it fun!

Conclusion

Cross training is a technique used by elite athletes and others to improve their long term performance and their enjoyment of their chosen sport or activity.

But you don’t need to be an athlete to utilise cross training techniques or benefit from cross training. Those of us wanting to lose weight can benefit greatly from fitness equipment too.

In this article we explained what cross training is, what the top 10 benefits of cross training are and how you can use it to help you lose weight, improve your fitness and become the happier, fitter person you know you can be.

Great Exercises – Discover Great Advice on Fresh Alternatives http://www.el-hombre.com/798/great-exercises/ http://www.el-hombre.com/798/great-exercises/#comments Sun, 12 Apr 2009 06:14:57 +0000 admin http://www.el-hombre.com/2009/04/12/great-exercises-discover-great-advice-on-fresh-alternatives/ A consideration to keep in mind when deciding on new exercises is whether or not they have stood the test of time and will have the desired effect. A consideration to keep in mind when deciding on new exercises is whether or not they have stood the test of time and will have the desired effect.

There are many different exercises that a person could perform and many of these exercises work exceptionally well to burn fat. However, not every exercise is created equal. Here are two exercises to consider which are suitable for exercise routines to gain mass and lose fat.

The first of these exercises is known as the abdominal curl. This is not the same thing as a sit-up, so remove that thought from your head right now! Position yourself on the ground with your back flat against the surface of the floor along with your feet. Make sure your legs are apart, because if the legs are together (like in a sit-up), it does more to hurt your back than to target your abdomen. From this position, rise up slowly just to the point of a sensation and then move back. Continue this process for 30 seconds to a minute, doing between 1 and 2 reps per second and you will be doing your body alot of good.

The second of the two exercises is a variation of the abdominal curl and is known as the chest crossover. You do the same thing and assume the same position as in the curl, except this time what you do is when you are bringing your body up to the sensory position, you also cross your outstretched arms in front of you. Alternate the crossings from side to side and you will find that you develop your obliques as well.

These are two exercises that strengthen your core and are well -suited to most exercise routines. If fat loss is your goal, then be sure to include a good cardio routine like jogging or biking. Exercises targeted to specific body parts like your abdominals are great, but real fat burning takes place with rigorous cardio sessions.

You can either fit cardio into your workout routine daily, or alternate days in the gym doing weight training and ab workouts with days where you focus primarily on running or biking cardio workouts. No matter what you are planning for a particular day however, it is always advisable to fit in some stretching before and after your workouts.

A consideration to keep in mind when it comes to fitness and exercise is choosing some extremely efficient workout strategies.

Alot of the best workout routines are included in workouts like warp speed fat loss. Learning about exercise is different than learning about Fat Loss 4 Idiots for instance, which focuses more on diet than on exercise.

If you are looking for extremely excellent weight loss strategies, you can also consider Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle, a diet and exercise program that has been very popular on the internet in recent years.

Always try to find workout routines that complement your diet and give you the proper balance needed to keep you in great overall shape.

Cardio exercise is such a strange thing. In theory, it should work so perfectly well for all men and women, but as anyone who has tried it knows, the practicality of it just doesn’t add up.

After all, some men and women do cardio 6 hours, 9 hours, or more per week, and still have belly fat to burn. On the other hand, it works just fine for others.

British researchers wanted to get more insight into this aradox, and studied 35 overweight men and women, who weren’t previously exercising.

(Reference: International Journal of Obesity 32: 177-184, 2008).

Subjects exercised 5 times per week for 12 weeks. That’s a lot of exercise, but it helped the subjects lose an average of 8.2 pounds, which is great – I was positively surprised by the results.

So cardio will work for some people, however, in my experience, it works best in young men, who need the help the least!

Back to the study, the variance in fat loss between individuals was huge. Check this out…

The best subject lost a staggering 32.3 pounds in 12 weeks, while the worst subject actually GAINED 3.74 pounds.

The scientists think they know where things went sour. They classified the subjects into 2 groups, called the “Compensators” and the “Non-compensators”.

The Compensators were hungrier, and as a result consumed an extra 268 calories per day, all but wiping out their cardio efforts.

Therefore, the Compensators lost the least amount of weight, and scientists believe that was due to the huge “compensatory” increase in appetite experienced by this group.

Does your appetite increase when you do slow cardio? If it does, research shows it will ruin your cardio efforts.

So if your cardio program is not working for you, check your appetite and calorie intake to see if you are “compensating” for your efforts. If you are, you might be better off using a program of high-intensity resistance and interval training (i.e. Turbulence Training) for your weight loss efforts.

As Australian Professor Steve Boucher has shown in research, interval training increases hormones called catecholamines. And increased catecholamines can reduce appetite, among other fat-burning benefits.

In the real world, few people lose 33 pounds after 12 weeks of cardio. Heck, few even achieve an average weight loss of 8 pounds with aerobic exercise.

So again, check your appetite, and consider giving high-intensity exercise a go for your next workout program.

Beat the curse of cardio with high-intensity Turbulence Training.

You see it everywhere. Lose 10 lbs, turn fat into muscle, trim inches from your waist line. Do these statements make sense? Are they possible?

he Lean Body Promise holds the ultimate fat-burning solution that will help you release the lean, strong body inside you.

The Lean Body Promise holds the ultimate fat-burning solution that will help you release the lean, strong body inside you.

Well, yes you can lose 10 lbs of body weight. Yes you can make the circumference of your waist smaller. No you cannot turn fat into muscle. That one is not even physically possible. Now what about the making sense part?  Should your goal be to lose 10 lbs of body weight? I don’t think so. Here’s why.

Our bodies are made up of all kinds of matter but there are two things that have a lot to do with the way we look, the way we feel, and even the way we live. These two things are muscle and fat. Our bodies must be made up of a certain percentage of fat in order for us to even survive. Of course most of us have that percentage plus quite a few percentage points more… Way more than we actually “need”.

Anyway, when many people make weight loss their number one goal, they start by doing what I call “eating like a bird”. They starve themselves and they may do aerobics like there is no tomorrow. I’ll tell you right now. It’s not right!

A few things happen when you eat like a bird. First, your body starts to use your fat stores and muscle stores for energy because you are not bringing in enough food to support life. Next, your body’s metabolism, or the rate at which it burns calories, begins to slow. You see, your body figures it’s not getting enough food to support life so it better start conserving what it has stored away so that it can survive. And what do you think it conserves when you eat like a bird and do only cardio. That’s right – fat.

The best thing about training for weight loss is that it trains our body and cultivates a behavior that helps it burn fat a lot faster than normal. Thereby, this method helps in giving results which are sustainable for long time periods.

It is because of all the above mentioned methods that training fat loss programs are becoming very popular among individuals who are looking to lose some serious weight.Want to get more information on Weight loss program, tips, diets and many more here Lose Belly Fat
