Lets look at the definition of a panic attack
A defintion of a panic attack is an extreme rise in the level of fear and anxiety.Many times the fear is irrational meaning the person is in no physical danger when the fear appears. The person may be safe but the fear rises to the point where they feel like death is just around the corner.
For each person having a panic attack, the symptoms can be extremely different. Many times the symptoms may mimic those of a heart attack and the person may even think they are having a heart attack. The person may have breathing difficulties and feel like their throat is closing in. Their heart may start to race, they may feel dizziness, nausea, clammy, shaky, light headed and other similar symptoms.
Panic attakcs are a horrible experience however medical experts say panic attacks are not serious. It is wise to see a medical expert who will rule out any other conditions. The reason being there are other conditions that display the same symptoms like stimulant addiction, hyperthyroidism, hyperglycemia, medical withdrawals and mitral valve prolapses. So work out for sure then start a treatment.
Another definition of a panic attack is a sudden experience of fear, accompanied by the fight or flight response. The fight or flight response is a very old inbuild mechanism that prepares us to run or fight in danger. Years ago the system was a survival mechanisms to help us fight of danger or wild animals. Instead they have been replaced with irrational fears, like fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of success. These types of fear have no real harm however the fight or flight response is activated.
A further definition of a panic attack is a moment of intense fear or dread. We mostly label feelings based on good or bad and when then associate them with pain and pleasure. Many times with fear we tend not to want to feel it. We then based on the expereince become afraid of fear.
With panic attacks the person experiencing them may withdraw, avoid circumstances and situations and it may lead to other disorders.
Panic attacks and the symptoms tend to affect your daily life so it is best to seek some form of treatment. What treatment the person seeks is purely up to them? There are all types of treatments from traditional medical intervention, counseling, cognitive therapies, medication, natural therapies, hypnosis and other such treatments.
Presently there is no known cause of panic attacks however many say it is directly related to our natural inbuilt fight or flight response which prepares our body to stand up and fight or run from the danger.
Another reasons may be thorugh stress, certain medical conditions, life experience, trauma and other such things.
You may want to try meditation, yoga, avoiding stimulants, relaxation therapies and other forms or relaxation.
It is helpful to remember you can be free of panic attacks, help is at hand.
