Susan asks…

What helps body aches when you have the flu?

I have the flu & normally I have a high pain tolerance, but I‘ve had severe body aches & muscle pain all morning. I took ibuprofen but it’s not helping.

admin answers:

Load up on Vitamin C and Zinc (which will help your body fight off the flu) and take a nice long hot bath with at least 2 cups of Epsom salts (which will greatly ease your body aches and pains. Just be sure to stay in the tub for at least 30 minutes to maximize the absorption of the Epsom salts.

How bad will my tattoo really hurt?

I am getting a quote on the inner side of my bicep. How bad will this hurt? I have a very high pain tolerance, but I have heard some mix emotions about the pain and discomfort.

admin answers:

Actually getting tattooed is not really too painful because modern tattoo machines move the needles through your skin pretty fast. Depending on the tattoo design, location and size, the amount of pain may vary to some extent. Usually tattooing over a bone where there is less flesh or meat hurts a little more than fleshy areas. Tattooing the outlines makes a different feeling from shading or tattooing areas of color. Most people say the outlining hurts more than the shading. Most people describe the pain of a tattoo to that of a bee sting or a bad sunburn.

How much does it hurt to get a tattoo on your foot?

I want a tattoo that is easy to hide, but in a spot I can flash around. I want it on my right foot towards the front. Its kinda small, but I want coloring. Is the pain tolerable even with a high pain tolerance person like me?

admin answers:

It is hard to explain the kind of pain that a tattoo causes. It is kind of like someone is scraping a burning piece of metal across your skin. I got a tattoo on my foot on Saturday, two lilies. For me, the shading was a bit more intense than the outline, though the artist said that he thought that the outline was worse for his tattoos. The areas that were over bone were worse than the fleshier areas. The part on the very top of my foot and the part near my ankle bone were VERY intense! The tattoo took a little over 2 1/2 hours with 2-5 minute breaks. He did outline, black shading and then color and color shading. There were times that it was a little intense, especially at the end when he was adding some white to areas of the tattoo that he hadn’t worked on for a good 20 minutes.

How much does piercing your ears hurt?

Is it like a shot at the doctors? I have a reasonably high pain tolerance but I‘m scared. Please compare it to something I can relate to (getting a shot, stung by a bee, etc) thanks!

admin answers:

I got my earlobes pierced with a gun 6 weeks ago, and honestly there was absolutely no pain for me. If you grab your earlobe and give it a quick pinch, that’s about all you will feel. There’s a slight warm sensation in your ear for a few moments after the initial piercing, but getting it wiped with a cleaner stops it immediately.

I actually felt the piercing less than I feel when getting a shot, and I’d say I have a decent pain tolerance. Good luck, and go for it!
