Your Questions About How Do I Know If I Have A High Pain Tolerance

Sandra asks…

How bad did your first tattoo hurt?

I‘m going in to get my first tattoo done soon, and I‘ve heard many different stories on what the pain is like. I‘m planning on getting it done on the inside of my foot. It’s very small, and won’t need any shading. Just a solid little symbolic thing to me. I have a fairly high pain tolerance but, of course, I‘m a little nervous.

So how badly did your first tattoo hurt, and where did you get it?

admin answers:

If yours is small it shouldn’t hurt that much although it’ll still hurt. Your level of pain tolerance also factors in..

I got my first tattoo on the lower left part of my back, which I was told is on a major nerve.. But I also have no pain tolerance, so it hurt like a bitch. It’s also about 4in by 4in

John asks…

What can I take to make my laser hair removal less painful?

I have a high pain tolerance and for some reason the laser hair removal on my face is awful. Its worse than the two surgeries I had and everytime it seems to hurt worse. I‘m not sure if the lady is doing it right because it hurts so bad. I would have stopped long ago, but I paid in advance and have three sessions left (no refunds). Anyway, is there anything I can take to ease the pain? Last time I took Tylenol and numbing cream and it didn’t help.

admin answers:

Well, my nurse who does my treatments says some people take advil, and a lot of people take vicodin. Some people come in drunk and one person even brings in a flask and drinks during the procedure. If you can get your hands on prescription pain killers like vicodin or hydrocodine I highly recommend it, just go to a doctor and tell them you have back pain =) Here’s my normal answer too in case it helps you any =)

Okay… Science answer:

You grow in at least 80% of your hair during puberty. When you have laser hair removal the hairs it kills will never grow again. But you still have up to 20% of your normal thickness that will grow in throughout the rest of your life. So people get touch up sessions every 3-5 years after their big 6 treatments. You need about 6 treatments, one each 2 months for a year, because the hair grows in different stages and it can only kill hair in the active growth stage. The laser works by targeting dark color (the hair follicle) and passing through light color (the skin) the hair and skin have to be very different shades of color for the hair to work. The darker and coarser the hair and lighter the skin, the better results you will have.

Okay… Personal Experience:

I’ve had 2 out of my 6 treatments so far. It HURTS! It’s like being poked with a sewing needle over and over, but it’s not as painful as a tattoo, and that’s not as painful as childbirth, maybe that can put the pain in perspective for you =) I’ve had my legs, underarms, and bikini area done. When you get your bikini area done they do ALL of it! Including spreading your butt and vaginal lips apart to laser all the cracks… It’s sorta awkward. After the 2 treatments I’ve had so far I’ve lost about 60% of leg hair, 40% bikini hair, and 25% underarms hair. It’s because the underarms hair is the thinnest and the leg hair is the coarsest. But the legs are the most painful. The more it hurts the better it works.
I spent this much for 6 treatments in each area:
Bikini-$750
Underarms-$750
Legs (toes to bikini)-$2,500

William asks…

How bad does getting your belly button Peirced hurt?

I‘m 13 with a high pain tolerance. I once broke my hand in 3 spots (crushed by a two seated go cart) and when the doctors squeezed it (trying to get a response) I didn’t even twitch.

admin answers:

It doesn’t honestly, me and my best friend got it done, both of us are terrified of needles, but it really is over in a flash, to be honest with you the worst pain is when they clamp the belly button (which isn’t sore) just so you understand it doesn’t hurt. Although after it’s done it is painful when you bend over so always crouch and bend your legs, so compared to your hand you won’t even feel it.

Nancy asks…

What is the Most Effective Epilator Out There?

I am looking into purchasing an epilator. I have an extremely high pain tolerance, so pain isn’t an issue for me. Price isn’t an issue, either. I just want whatever works best and is most effective. I‘m looking into getting a Braun Silk-Epil X-elle. Do you have experience with this product or know of any better epilators?

admin answers:

Braun would probably be the best because they are known for hair-grooming tools. Does an epilator remove hair permanately. Why not just shave.

Daniel asks…

How painful is getting your belly button pierced?

About how bad does getting a naval piercing hurt like on a scale of 1-10? I generally have a high pain tolerance. I have pierced my cartilege myself so maybe compare to that?

admin answers:

The clamps: most people say its the most painful part, for me it was like grabbing some skin, i didn’t find it painful.
The needle going through: this was a very sharp pinch, lucky it only lasted a second.
The jewelry going through: this was the most painful for me, was a sharp pressure that lasted a few seconds.
On the whole I would rate it a 4/10. It hurt, but not for long.
