Your Questions About Family Symbols Tattoos

Robert asks…

Are their specific types of dragons associated with specific elements?

im looking to get a tattoo with four dragons each one representing a different element, are there specific dragons or kinds of dragons that are obviously associated with specific elements?

admin answers:

There are creatures associated with the four elements hypothesized by the Milesian school of ancient Greek philosophy. Salamanders live in fire, sylphs are creatures of the air, undines are residents of water and gnomes are elemental creatures of earth. I have not heard of dragons associated with different elements that I recall. My country China had five elements: fire, earth, wood, metal and water. Dragons were of two types: five-clawed lung are more powerful than four-clawed meng. Five is a symbol of totality in China, so there are five elements, five peoples of China, five cuisines, five musical notes, etc. And in martial arts there are Five Shaolin Animal Styles, Five Shaolin Family Styles, an esoteric Five Venoms styles, etc.

Sandra asks…

Is it ok for a girl to get their last name as a tattoo?

My mom is my birth mom but my dad is technically my step dad. He adopted me and became my legal father and him and i are extremely close. I know that when i get married ill take on my husband’s last name but i don’t want to lose my last name because it’s so special to me. so i want to get it as a tattoo but i have only really seen guys with their last names as tattoos.

admin answers:

I was literally *just* thinking about this. I think it makes a lot more sense for a woman to get her last name tattooed than a man. On men it often comes across as a little ridiculous to me, as if they’re worried they’ll forget it, but if a woman is intending to change her name after marrying then it makes perfect sense as a symbol of her ongoing connection to her parental family.

Basically, yeah, go for it. Just don’t get it in massive, obnoxious gothic script.

Maria asks…

I want a tattoo on my hip that says believe but I want three symbols to go with it. Help!?

I’m not sure of the script that the tattoo is going to be in yet. The three symbols are for my two uncles and brother that have passed away. The world believe and idea behind it is something that has helped me through everything. Any ideas for symbols or a picture? I definately want it small. I was thinking three stars that got smaller but I’m not in love with the idea. Any help is a plus.

admin answers:

That sounds like a really great idea for remembrance of someone.

The stars are a cute idea, definatly not original though- so I’m not too fond of it.

Why don’t you put three symbols of something that you or they believed strongly in? And incorparate all of them together….

You could put Believe in a pretty script.
Then a cross for Faith
A heart for Love
A bird/dove for either Peace or Family/Friends… It just depends how the symbol means to YOU.

Hope that sprung up some ideas!

John asks…

What were your experience like getting your first tattoo? I’m nervous about getting one!?

The problem is that I really want a tattoo in memory of my grandma, like a cross with her name on it or something. I might get something small since this is my first time. I was just wondering for those who have tattoos what was your experience like and how serious or little the pain is. Also i would like to know what areas hurt the most and the least?

admin answers:

I have a sultry purple cat on my back with my mothers initials on the collar, for when she passed away.

It’s wonderful to imortalize family this way. If it is your first time, definately think of what you want that will symbolize your grandma the way you will always want to remember her. If a cross is the way than find the cross that suits you. If you talk to your tattooist, they may also be able to design something original and meaningful to you if you take some time and talk to them ahead of time. Remember anything can be your own special way to remember and love her always.

You are going to feel pain but it will be over with within a reasonable amount of time. But the memory and the symbol will last a lifetime.
Good Luck.

Donald asks…

Why do people think you’re gay if you pierce your right ear?

I’m going to get my ear pierced and I don’t want people to think I’m gay just because my right ear is pierced. Why do they think that?

admin answers:

Many years ago, long before you were born, I’m sure, when being gay was really seriously something that people hid from friends and family far, far more than they do now, having a pierced right ear was a secret sign that someone was gay.

Nowadays, with tattoos and multiple piercings on just about everyone, it’s no longer true, but that old story lingers on, so some people still think that a pierced right ear is a gay symbol even though it’s not any more.

Good luck!… ☺
