Your Questions About Tattoos Meaning Strength And Freedom

Sandy asks…

Does this meaning/symbolism make sense?

So I convinced my uncle to sign for me to get a tattoo (ps: im 16). My brother had gotten his first one when he was 14 1/2 and it took up half his back. Than he got another one when he was 16 that was i think an anagram (??) of strength and Loyalty. In my life ive had allot of stress: Parents divorced when I was 4, mom got remarried, problems at school, problems at home, ministry and cops being involved, mom having a new kid then moving to nova scotia (I live in BC), choosing were to live (with my dad) dealing with not seeing my older bro mom and lil bro, older bro moving back in . ex boyfriend trying to kill himself if i didnt go out with him, more cops being involved, bro and me fighting, more problems at school and drinking and drugs and smoking, brother moving out, ect. Its been a rough time for me. And the whole time i was living to please others and trying to be perfect. My dad of course saw that tattoo and asked what i meant and I just couldn’t tell him without it sounding..wrong… but does this make sense: I got “Freedom” on my ankle (okay spot , not too noticable or prone to stretching) as symbolizing me being free of the stress and pain from before and to come and breaking free of my own chains and not trying to be perfect no more and being me for once. Does that make sense at all??
kay im not asking if u think tattoos are right or wrong im asking does what i got and why i got it make sense. Im not gonna go get it removed its already done, it was my choice not yours

I don’t agree with daniel at all. Tattoos are the best way of expressing oneself in evey aspect of one’s life. If that tattoo helps you to heal and works as a reminder and makes you feel better about yourself, yes it makes perfect sense.

You can pick something based on the victorian language of flowers. It would be pretty, and original, and not so common. I mean, how many people can say “I have a cala lilly on me and it means “magnificent beauty”.”

Chris asks…

tattoo opinions needed helpppp!!!!?

So i want this tattoo on the front of my shoulder
http://www.checkoutmyink.com/tattoos/girlgotjokes/swallow-healed
i fell in love with it it’s simple but so so so pretty!!!!
and i want a word underneath like that but i don’t know if i 100% like freedom so i’m stuck between: hope, strength, joie de vire (the joy of life), freedom, and persevere.
I’m kind of leaning toward persevere because it would have a lot of meaning behind it but which one do you think would look good?
well without writing a book, im about to go into my senior year and ever sense 7th grade i wasn’t behaving very well i was kinda a trouble maker, in 8th grade i got really sick and got diagnosed with Tourettes, ADHD, and chronic migranes, i also found out i was having a kind of stroke in my sleep… but sense than i have used it to motivate me to do well! despite how hard it is for me to learn and having like a 1.5 GPA going into high school i now hold a 3.8 at my high school and a 4.0 in my cyber classes, im also an Athletic Trainer, and work a 40 hr a week job! i have gotten to a really good place in my life because i pushed myself!:)

How beautiful, you should get it done. What situation have you recently been through? Just turn eighteen, twenty one going into college or anything like that? Or have you gone through anything like an eating disorder or cutting? Have you recently learned the way to live and have a good time? If one of the answers of these three questions are a yes go with the corresponding word. I suggest freedom if you cant decide.

John asks…

Elvish (Tengwar) translation site?

I really want to get the lyrics to “Edge of Night” (Pippin’s song in RotK) in Elvish tattooed, but…the song is in English .____. Help?

Lyrics:
Home is behind, the world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow, cloud and shade
All shall fade, all shall fade

The lyrics really mean a lot to me and in a way represent how I got through my personal hardships in life, and I would really like to have it tattoed in Elvish, because for one it’s a kickass language and more seriously, elves represent to me grace, power, strength and freedom to go about your own way, which are values I go by in my life.

Thanks~
-Sil

Here is one possible way to write the lyrics in Tengwar:

You can check the letters with:
http://at.mansbjorkman.net/teng_general_english.htm
or http://www.acondia.com/fonts/tengwar/info/english.htm

Please be aware that Tengwar is not a language. It is only a script.
Translating to Tolkien Elvish means translating to either Sindarin (Grey-Elven) or Quenya (High-Elven) (in the movies Sindarin was more frequently used).
But since Tolkien’s languages are incomplete using a transcription of the English words in Tengwar is generally safer anyways.

Here is a Sindarin translation done by me (for another request):

“bar adel
i amar pann
ah ennas raid evyr a phadad
trî dhae
nan rîw e-vôr
nan lû ir elenath sílar
hîth a dhae
faun a ‘wath
pân thinnatha
pân thinnatha”

(home is behind
the world is wide
and there are abundant paths to walk
through shadow
to the edge of night
to the time when all stars shine
mist and shadow
cloud and shade
all shall fade
all shall fade)

Note that in Sindarin the verb ‘to be’ is generally left out.
Vocabulary:
bar – home
adel – behind
i – the
amar – earth
pann – wide
a, ah – and; ah in front of vowels
ennas – there
r̢d; plural raid Рpath
ovor, pl. Evyr – abundant
an – for, to, towards; shortened to a when a word with P follows
pada- – walk; gerund padad, mutated to phadad
tr̨ Рthrough
dae; mutated dhae – shadow
nan – to the (na + i)
r̨w Рedge, border
e-v̫r Рof night (en + m̫r)
lû – time, occasion
ir – when
elenath – all stars
síla- – shine white; plural present tense sílar
h̨th Рmist
faun – cloud
gwath, mut. ‘wath – shade
p̢n Рall
thinna- – fade; future thinnatha (will/shall fade)

Daniel asks…

I’m 13, getting a tattoo, is this picture a good choice? PLEASE READ!?

Well, I know what I want and I already have permission to get one if it means something to me. It does. I’m not gonna be stupid and have something like, a random thing. It’s gonna be on my left forearm, and I’m not scared of it hurting and I don’t care because I’ve wanted it forever.
The tatty I chose is an Eagle, in the shape/body of a songbird, singing(music notes.) Reasons:
Eagle-I’m %60 American, and proud of it. The Eagle represents freedom, great strength, majestic beauty and long life. My mom, Aunt and Uncle are American, so it’s definately a family thing.
Songbird Shape/Body-A songbird is a bird, I love wildlife and being outdoors, whenever I get the chance the go camping, I’m there.
Music Notes-Music is so important to me, I don’t know what I’d do without it. It got me through tough situations(I know I’m only 13, but I’ve dealt with depression, because of music, I’m okay now :D) It’s part of my everyday life, it’s like a drug, haha.
So, is it a good choice? Here is a picture(it’s not me, it’s what I want, and I’m adding music notes to it):

K, I know about the career choices, I know what I want to do already and I have great grades in school and everything. I HAVE thought about the future, for a whole year already. If I have to cover it up, I’m already into lots of makeup and stuff. And I don’t mind wearing long sleeves, even in the hot summers, I wear thick hoodies in the summer for God’s sake, it don’t bother me. I only asked if it was a nice picture to get inked, not anything else so I won’t listen to those extra things. That’s the only reason I MADE a Yahoo, so I could ask if it was nice and worth the time and money. I know I won’t regret getting it, because I’m proud of everything it represents, especially the family thing. So just tell me if it’s worth the time to get something nice. That’s all I’m asking for.
And also, my parent(no plural 🙁 sadly) is not an idiot, it took her years to to convince her just to let me get one at 16! But when I picked it out, she had me hanging for an answer for a week straight. I got my answer yesterday. So, don’t say that either. And for everyone’s information, I’m turing 14 next month and that’s my birthday present…

Honestly people, 13 just SOUNDS young, it seems like you know what you want and i know when i was 13 i was perfectly capable of picking out a tattoo. Infact i picked out one before then and got it done when i was 18, im 24 now and i don’t regret it. If it means someting to u, then go for it. Clearly your parents trust your judgement.
